Origin- South Africa

Zebra plant is a visually striking succulent with thick dark green leaves with horizontal stripes. It is one of the best choice among succulent enthusiasts. It is a plant with minimal care and maintenance. This plant is best known for purifying indoor air.

Benefits/ Uses- Zebra plant is a easy to care indoor succulent which helps in purifying air and regulating humidity in indoor spaces.

Growing Conditions-

1. Soil- Use well-drained cacti succulent mix for zebra plant. A mix of potting soil, sand, and perlite or pumice works well. The pot should have drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.

2. Watering- Allow the soil to dry out partially before watering again. Zebra Haworthia is a succulent, so it can withstand periods of drought. Avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot. Reduce watering frequency during winter months.

3. Temperature- Zebra plant prefers temperatures between 18°C-24°C. The plant is sensitive to frost condition. Protect the plant from frost and extreme temperature fluctuations.

4. Humidity- Zebra plant prefers average to low humidity levels. It can adapt to dry indoor environments, making it suitable for various indoor conditions.

5. Light requirements- Zebra plant thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct sunlight, especially in the morning or late afternoon.

6. Fertilization- Zebra haworthia is not a heavy feeder. Fertilize once or twice during the growing season (spring and summer), with a diluted, balanced cacti-succulent fertilizer.

7.Flowering- Zebra plant is generally grown for its attractive foliage. However it can produce small, tubular white flowers occasionally in  ideal condition.

8.Important Diseases-

Root Rot- Overwatering or poorly-drained soil can lead to root rot, which causes the roots to become mushy and can eventually kill the plant. Ensure proper drainage, and water the plant only when the top inch of soil is dry.

Leaf Spot- Fungal infections can cause dark, sunken spots on the leaves. Avoid overhead watering and provide good air circulation. If leaf spot occurs, remove and destroy affected leaves and consider applying a fungicidal treatment.

 9.Important Pests- Zebra plant is generally a low-maintenance plant and is not prone to many pests. Common insect which attacks Zebra plant is-

Mealybugs- These small, cottony white insects can infest the plant, particularly in the leaf axils and crevices. Use a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to remove them, or treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil to prevent the spread.

10. Pruning- Zebra plant generally requires minimal pruning  and mainly done for maintenance purposes or to remove any dead or damaged leaves. Avoid excessive pruning, as it can hinder the plant growth.

11. Propagation- Zebra plant can be propagated through offsets or leaf cuttings. Cutting can be put a well drained potting mix for propagation.
