Benefits/ Uses- Money plant is
popularly known for its ability to purify air by removing airborne pollutants
from indoor air. It is used as a Vastu Plant for creating a powerful impact on financial and mental well being.
Growing conditions-
1.Soil-Potting soil mixed
with sand will works well for the growth of money plant marble prince. Sand or perlite can be
used for better drainage.
2.Watering-Only water
the plants when the top inch of soil feels dry. Watering once in every 7- 10 days
will be enough for money plant. Plant prefers moist soil but it should not be
soggy or waterlogged.
3.Temperature-Marble prince plant thrive
in average to warm temperature between 18°C-30°C.
They can tolerate slightly lower temperature but should be protected from cold
air.
4.Humidity- Marble prince plant appreciates higher humidity but can tolerate a wide range of humidity levels.
5.Light requirements- Money plant
prefers bright, indirect light for better growth. it can tolerate low light but
the growth will slow. Avoid direct sunlight, it will results in scorching of leaves.
6.Fertilization- Money plant
can be fertilized with nitrogenous fertilizer once in every 2-4 weeks during
growing season.
7.Flowering- Money plants can
produce greenish white coloured flower cluster in their native tropical regions. They
do not produce flowers when grows as a houseplant. Basically money plant marble prince plants are
gown for their attractive variegated foliage.
8.Important Diseases-
Wilt- The veins of the leaves and the stem
turn darker in colour. Yellowing and wilting of the leaves are observed.
Root
rot- Leaving the plant in soggy soil or overwatering is the main reason of root
rot. Wilting of the leaves, leaves getting dark blotches and roots turning
brown or black are the indication of the disease.
9. Important Pests- Aphids, spider mites, white fly are generally suck the sap from the plants, and result in stunted growth and plants start to wither. Apply insecticidal soap and horticultural oil like neem oil to control these. Other than this fungus gnats can affect the plant. Apply sticky traps to control or repot the plant as soon as possible as the insects live and lay eggs in soil.
10. Pruning & Maintenance- Money plant marble prince can grow long vines. Pruning of the plant helps to make the plant bushy and
compact. Pruning can also be done to remove old and yellow leaves. As the plant is a climbing plant provide support to grow properly. Using a moss stick for the same gives better result. Repot the plants in every 1-2 years when the roots of the plant starts outgrowing the current pot.
11. Propagation- These plants can be propagated through stem cuttings. It can be propagated in soil as well as in water. It also grows well in water. To propagate take a stem cutting of the plant with several nodes and place it either in well drained potting mix or in water.
