Plant Description-

Common Name- Wandering Jew, Inch Plant, Zebrina Plant

Scientific Name-Tradescantia zebrina

Family-Commelinaceae

Origin-Mexico, Central America, and parts of South America.

Growing Conditions-

1.Soil Requirements- Well-draining potting mix is essential. A mix of potting soil and perlite or sand is suitable. Slightly acidic to neutral (around 6.0 to 7.0).

2.Watering Requirements- Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry. Reduce watering during the winter months.

3.Temperature- Ideal temperature range: 15°C to 24°C.Protect from extreme cold as the plant is sensitive to frost.

4.Light Requirements- Bright, indirect light is preferable; avoid direct sunlight. Can tolerate low light conditions but may lose some of its vibrant color.

5.Humidity- Wandering Jew plants appreciate moderate to high humidity levels. If you live in a dry climate or during the winter when indoor air tends to be dry, consider using a humidity tray or a room humidifier to increase moisture around the plant.

6.Fertilization- Feed every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring to early autumn) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer. Reduce or eliminate fertilization during the winter months.

7.Flowering- The Wandering Jew plant can produce small, three-petaled flowers, but they are not particularly showy, and the plant is primarily grown for its foliage.

8.Important Pests and Diseases- Common pests include spider mites, aphids, and mealybugs. Regularly inspect the plant for signs of infestation. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it's crucial to maintain proper soil drainage.

9.Pruning-Trim the plant to encourage bushier growth and prevent leggy growth. Pinch or snip off the tips of the stems to promote branching.

10.Propagation- Wandering Jew plants can be propagated through stem cuttings. Cut a healthy stem just below a leaf node and place it in water until roots develop, then transplant it into soil. Propagation is best done in spring or early summer.
