Common Name-  Croton Plant
Scientific Name- Codiaeum variegatum
Origin- Malaysia and the Pacific
Family- Euphorbiaceae

Benefits/Uses- Used as a decorative plant in indoor or outdoor garden. Eliminates volatile organic compounds from the air.
Growing Conditions- 
1.Soil- Use well-drained soil that retains some moisture. A mix of peat moss ,perlite, and/or sand works well for crotons. 
2. Watering- Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch, and ensure proper drainage to prevent waterlogging. Crotons are more tolerant to slightly dry conditions compared to overwatering.
3. Temperature- Croton plants prefer temperatures between 18°C-32°C. They are sensitive to cold drafts, so protect them from temperatures below 15 °C.
4. Humidity- Croton plants thrive in high humidity environments. Increase humidity by misting the leaves regularly or by grouping the plants together to create a microclimate.
5. Light requirements- Croton plants require bright, indirect light to maintain their colorful leaves. Place them near a window with filtered sunlight. It can also thrive in outdoor conditions. Avoid exposing them to direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
6. Fertilization-  Feed croton plants with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer once in a month during the growing season (spring and summer).
7. Flowering- Croton plants produce small insignificant yellow coloured flowers. But they are mainly grown for their vibrant attractive foliage.
8.Important Diseases- Croton plants can be affected by common houseplant diseases like root rot and leaf spot.
9. Important Pests- Croton plants are susceptible to various pest attack , such as spider mites, mealy bugs and scale insects. 
Regular inspection, maintaining proper hygiene, and providing optimal growing conditions can help to prevent and manage these pests and diseases.
10. Pruning- Prune croton plants to maintain their shape and size. Prune away leggy or overcrowded branches to encourage bushier growth.
11. Propagation- Croton plants can be propagated through stem cuttings. Take a 4-6 inch long cutting from a healthy stem, remove lower leaves, dip in rooting hormone , and plant in well-drained soil. Place in a warm, humid location with indirect light until roots develop, then transplant into a larger pot.
