Package- A healthy Arrowhead Vine Plant (Without pot)
Plant Description:
Common Name- Arrowhead vine
Scientific Name- Syngonium podophyllum.
Family- Araceae
Origin- Mexico to Ecuador
Syngonium podophyllum, commonly called as arrowhead vine is a evergreen climbing vine grows up to a height between 3-6 ft. It is generally grown for its attractive beautiful foliage. The shape of the leaf changes as the plant matures.
Benefits-
This plant is well known for its air purifying ability. It boosts humidity and reduces dry air. In Feng shui and Vastu the plant is believed to invite positive energies as the leaves mature into varying 5 lobes , denoting the 5 elements ( water, fire, earth, wood, metal) of nature.
Growing conditions-
1.Soil- A well drained soil mix prepared with peat moss, perlite and organic matter is ideal for arrowhead vine. this plant is prone to root rot, so make sure the pot has a proper drainage hole. Terracotta or clay pot is more preferable as it absorbs the extra moisture very well.
2.Watering- Keep the soil slightly moist but not waterlogged. Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry, allowing excess water to drain away. Always avoid overwatering.
3.Light- Arrowhead vine likes bright indirect light. No direct sunlight is required as the harsh rays can burn or bleach the delicate leaves.
4.Temperature- These plants thrive well in average room temperature between15°C-24°C. They are very sensitive to cold temperature.
5.Humidity- Arrowhead vine appreciates higher humidity level. One can increase the humidity level by misting water on the leaves or by creating a microclimate by placing all the plants together.
6.Fertilization- Fertilize the plant once in a month with a balanced water soluble fertilizer during growing season.
7.Flowering- Arrowhead vine can produce flowers which are small and white in color under right conditions during growing season ( spring and summer). but it is primarily grown for its attractive foliage rather than flowers.
8.Important diseases-
Leaf spot- Dark brown coloured water soaked spots are seen on the leaves. To manage leaf spot remove and destroy the affected leaves, ensure good air circulation, and avoid overhead watering.
Root rot- Overwatering or poor drainage can lead to root rot. it causes wilting, yellowing and mushy roots allow the soil to dry before watering, ensure proper drainage.
Leaf curl-Leaf curl can be caused by low humidity, overwatering and extreme temperature.
9.Important pests- Like other indoor plants arrowhead plant is also affected by mealy bugs, aphids and spider mites. remove the insects from the plants with cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol .Apply neem oil or insecticidal soap to get rid of further infestation.
10.Pruning- Arrowhead vine can be pruned to remove damaged and diseased part of the plant and to control the shape and size of the plant.
11.Propagation- Arrowhead vine can be propagated through stem cuttings. Take 4-6 in long cuttings with several nodes and place it well drained potting mix or in water.
